A Hivemind like Antagonist Idea for Unnamed Project

I’ve been thinking about the concept of a Hivemind villain.
I definitely want it to be able to materialize scout enemies and even its own materialize their own aspects as its own beings, questioning to the player if they have their own will or are just that Being In Specific.
Though…. Do you think it should be like a biological alien entity like the Gravemind from Halo or an Artificial Intelligence of the likes of Code Lyoko’s XANA or World’s End Club‘s MAIK?

An biological alien villain would make more sense, like Muv Luv's BETA, as opposed to an Artificial Intelligence villain which possesses inherent artificial vulnerabilities.

It can be biological or mechanical, what about the intangible Mysterons from Captain Scarlet and The Mysterons?
