Do you think Ness knew he was a Psychic before the Events of Earthbound? Or was he oblivious until then?

Both Paula and Poo knew, so there’s a precedent of PSI Users being self-aware before a conflict.

But they weren't too developed until the meteorite crash happened and conflict began.

I'm not sure then. Itoi did say you need to awaken the PSI powers that rest deep inside of everyone to be able to use them.
I think you can actually learn lifeup before meeting buzz buzz if you grind for it, maybe that's a clue.
