Is Earthbound Beginnings “America” referring to the Continent rather than the Country?

Do you think Earthbound Beginnings’s location of “America” is referring to the American Continent itself, rather than the Country, the United States of America?


Arguments for being referential to the continent.

-Sorta has a Canada vibe.

-Misses a lot of American cultural markers, unlike Earthbound’s Eagleland & Mother 3’s New Pork City.


Arguments for being referential to the country.

-Seems to have an emphasis on it’s rural nature.

-Japan tends to associate America primarily with the United States (@Lone can dispute this).

I've never heard the continent referred to as just America アメリカ in Japanese. Usually we'd specify "North" or "Continent" or both.

Mother 1 is specified to take place in America アメリカ, so it refers specifically to the USA.
